Your Child’s Growth Begins Here
We recognise that this is one of the most important decisions as parents or carers, you will ever have to make. However, you can be rest assured that our school will offer every young person a nurturing, encouraging and safe environment to learn, achieve and grow academically, spiritually, physically and emotionally from Kindergarten to Year 6. Thank you for taking the first step in considering a Catholic education for your child.
A Multi-Tiered System of Support for Academic, Wellbeing and Positive Behaviour
St Joseph’s School embraces contemporary learning by fostering inclusive and supportive environments through a Multi-Tiered System of Support framework, addressing academic, wellbeing, and positive behaviour needs. This approach, aligned with Professional Learning Community principles, emphasises collaborative inquiry, evidence-based practices, and a commitment to continuous improvement. Central to this is a school wide approach for positive behaviour, guided by clear ‘Rules for Living’:
- I am safe
- I am valued, respected and cared for
- I am a learner
This cultivates a culture of shared responsibility and empowers young people to thrive academically and socially.
Contemporary Pedagogical Approaches
St Joseph’s School prioritises contemporary learning spaces and pedagogy, employing the Gradual Release and Acceptance of Responsibility model to empower learners. This approach fosters a dynamic learning environment where teachers initially model concepts and skills, progressively releasing responsibility to students through guided practice and collaborative activities through to independent practice. This structured progression cultivates autonomous learners who confidently apply their knowledge and skills. Coupled with flexible learning spaces that encourage collaboration and critical thinking, this model ensures students actively engage with the curriculum, developing both academic proficiency and a sense of ownership over their learning journey.
Opportunities
St Joseph’s School provides a wealth of opportunities for students to develop their talents and interests beyond the classroom. Sporting prowess is fostered through regular Gala Days, representative sports pathways, and sport-specific coaching offered most terms, ensuring all students actively participate in school carnivals for athletics, swimming, and cross country. Beyond physical activity, students can explore their creative sides through extra-curricular activities like choir, participation in community events, Chess Club, and the NECOM band, offering a well-rounded educational experience that cultivates diverse skills and a strong sense of community.
Little Joey’s School Readiness Program
St Joseph’s School extends its commitment to early childhood education with the Little Joey’s School Readiness Program, designed to prepare children aged 0-5 for future learning. Complementing the formal Transition to School Program for upcoming Kindergarten students, “Little Joey’s” provides a nurturing environment where young learners can develop essential skills and social confidence. Aligned with the school’s core philosophy, ensuring every child feels Safe, Valued, Respected, and Cared For, the program runs every Thursday during the school term from 9:30 to 11:30 am in the school hall (enter via Meade Street gate), fostering a smooth and positive introduction to the school community.
